    The Tin Barn Gallery

I'm so very pleased to announce that some of my art pieces are going to Terlingua, Texas! You can find these three pieces at the end of the month hanging at the Tin Barn Gallery and Forge. The Tin Barn has been part of the Big Bend area for over fifty years and has been converted into an art space.

These three pieces of art are printed on aluminum. They're the first digital pieces that I've had printed in this way and I'm in love with them. The color is fantastic.

I had asked a few weeks ago via some of my social media accounts which pieces people would like to see in physical print. Almost everything got at least one vote. These three got the most. The raven was absolutely going. The votes were so close between the coyote and the jackrabbit that they're going to. I can't wait to take the next round to the gallery. It will be the donkey, road runner, and the bear. I hope these three do well.

    The Runner Duck

The Indian Runner duck is a domestic duck that is known for standing upright. This animal does not waddle -it runs. These traits make it especially unique. They only nest if they're trying to hatch eggs. They aren't known for flying. They are social, friendly animals and they are good pets.

These ducks do not require water or a pond, but they do enjoy swimming. They are a forager and they will eat a variety of foods from insect larvae to foliage.
I like these animals. I've wanted to paint them for a little while. I started working on this little, cheery doodle. This is not going to be the last Runner painting that I do. I want to do a portrait and I want to do a more realistic piece of art. But, I enjoy the bright colors of this digital painting. I used a mix of media: from digital pencil to digital watercolor.

Do you have a favorite duck breed?

    Anxiety, Art, and Self-Care

    Art is Self-Care

    Picture
I had a big trigger earlier this week and have felt anxious and stressed since then. I've had a hard time sleeping, I've had trauma-related dreams, and I've just felt on edge for the last few days. I've been working on a big art project, which has been so much fun, but it hasn't let me just work without purpose.

In thinking about my self-care I'd prioritized moving my body (even going for walks when it's chilly - something I'm not a fan of). I've practiced stretching and trying to be gentle. I've journaled. But, my mind just holds things.

So, this evening I decided to create art for myself and drew out a Boston frond. Boston ferns are some of my favorite ferns. They're the perfect porch plant. This was a fun piece to work on. I like the purple in the darker areas of the leaves.
Something that I try to remember about making art is that it is supposed to be enjoyable. I'm supposed to have fun while I'm doing that. Play helps us cope with difficult situations, improves self-esteem, builds curiosity and confidence. It isn't just important for children, play is important for adults. I enjoyed playing with the colors of this piece, using my new watercolor brush set, and painting something green. All of my problems aren't solved by my Boston frond, but it definitely helped.

    Art Alliance Contest: Bear Fairy

    2/3/2023

The Art Alliance of San Angelo (which you can find here) is hosting an art challenge open to artists of the Concho Valley. Participating artists must submit one piece of art around the theme "fairy" during the month of February - and I love this kind of challenge because of the flexibility given to the artists. I've been thinking about what I wanted to contribute for the last few days.

I knew that I wanted to focus on an animal fairy - so much of my art centers around animal imagery. When I started thinking about what animal I could turn into a fairy I couldn't stop thinking about a bear. When I thought about my little bear I didn't want him to have big wings - I wanted him to have tiny little wings.

He's absolutely precious! I've gotten the best feedback about this piece: I've been told he reminds people of Heimlich from A Bug's Life to being asked if he's available as a print to being asked if he's on merch.

I'd made a decision last year to stop carrying Merch in my shop, but I'm really thinking about bringing some back for this little friend. And, prints will be available soon.

I'll be hanging two pieces in a gallery this month and I'm so excited. I'm trying to decide which pieces to contribute to the space. These digital prints will be printed on metal. Let me know in the comments which two pieces you think should be made into a physical print!
