Illustration Introduction

Welcome! If you've made it to this page, you're interested in the illustrative side of my artwork. I began illustrating children's books in 2023 and have continued to focus most of my energy in this space. I look forward to finding ways to ignite young imaginations and bring stories to life in magical ways. My illustrations are simple and charming. The same color that defines my physical pieces often finds its way into my illustrations and is evident as the reader remarks on journeys through deep oceans, brushes their teeth with hippopotamuses, or make pizza with a big grizzly bear. With each illustration I hope to not only captivate young hearts, but to help foster a love for reading (and maybe even ignite a spark of creativity, too!). Join me in celebrating the joy of visual storytelling - every turn of the page is a new discovery waiting to be made!

I vividly remember my favorite illustrations from various childhood books. Re-reading many of these stories with my children, I feel as if I am greeting old friends. I hope my own illustrations will be remembered half as fondly by any readers. My work meets imagination authentically. I work with animals, each lovingly depicted with handsome detail. I want to help bring your vision to life!

I use digital watercolors for most of my illustrations. I prefer the way the colors blend and appreciate the softness of this medium in my work. As an illustrator, I am dedicated to crafting illustrations that inspire, entertain, and spark joy in a child's heart. I work with digital mediums in which I specialize in bringing beloved animal characters to life.

Book Cover Sample Work

It's okay to judge a book by its cover - artists work hard on them! I carefully consider each story when creating a book cover. I work with you to decide if something colorful or something more simple would best fit your vision and help bring your book before your best audience.

What is children's book illustration?

The art of children's book illustration centers around creating visual representations that accompany and enhance the text of a children's book. Illustrations are a story inside of a story and includes creating characters, settings, and scenes that appeal to young readers and help to bring the story to life.

What styles of illustration do you offer?

I offer a range of illustration styles to suit different preferences and project needs, but work primarily with digital watercolor. I understand that the illustrative needs of each project are unique, and I am willing to discuss other mediums, including mixed media where necessary. Each style has its unique charm and can be tailored to match the tone and theme of your story. Please note: I work with animals and plants exclusively (I do not draw humans). I also do not use Artificial Intelligence (AI) in any of my work and I will not work from AI concept pieces provided by the author or publisher.

How do I choose the right illustrator for my project?

Choosing the right illustrator involves considering factors such as their artistic style, experience, and compatibility with your vision for the book. I assume if you choose to work with me, it is because you enjoy my specific style. When evaluating illustrators, I recommend reviewing portfolios and discussing your project goals with potential illustrators to find the best fit. Ask about your illustrator's process. With Artificial Intelligence (AI) so easily accessible, many people turn to technology to create illustrations. AI illustrations are based off of plagiarized (stolen) work and they should not be used when illustrating your story. Your illustrator should be able to provide you with unique sketches, progress pictures or videos, and a final and consistent product.

What is the process for commissioning illustrations?

The commissioning process typically involves initial discussions to establish project requirements and goals, followed by concept development, sketching, revisions, and final artwork production. I work closely with clients at every stage to ensure that the illustrations meet their expectations per the agreements in our contract.

How long does it take to complete illustrations for a children's book?

The timeline for completing illustrations varies depending on factors such as the complexity of the artwork, the number of illustrations required, and my availability. I work closely with clients to establish realistic timelines and keep them informed throughout the process.

What rights do I have to the illustrations?

I offer different licensing options for the use of illustrations, including exclusive and non-exclusive rights, depending on the client's needs. I ensure that clients have the necessary rights to use the illustrations in their books and related materials.

Can I request changes to the illustrations once they are completed?

Yes, I welcome feedback and revisions to ensure that the illustrations meet your vision for the book. I include a certain number of revision rounds in my packages to accommodate changes and refinements as needed.

What file formats will I receive the illustrations in?

I provide high-resolution digital files of the illustrations in formats such as JPEG, PNG, or PSD, depending on the client's preferences and requirements. These files are suitable for printing and digital publication.

Do you offer illustration services for other types of children's materials?

Yes, in addition to children's books, I offer illustration services for a variety of children's materials, including educational resources, activity books, posters, and more. I can tailor illustrations to suit different formats and purposes.

How do I get started with commissioning illustrations for my project?

To get started, simply reach out to me with details about your project, including the scope, budget, timeline, and any specific requirements you have. I'll be happy to discuss your project and provide you with a customized quote and timeline for the illustration work.
